Several fans bundled up Friday to watch Blackford (5-4) take on Mississinewa (8-1). The Indians got the best of the Bruins, 38-13, but the Bruins held their heads high.
Head coach Randy Sehy gathered his players in the end zone at the end of the game. He told them to keep fighting and to continue to want to win. He told his players to lift their heads up as he didn’t want his team to be discouraged after its effort on the field.
“I’m proud of our guys. They never quit,” Sehy said. “Mississinewa is a good 4A school. They are bigger, faster and stronger than us.”
Senior running back and defensive back Isaac Justice said he is proud of the way his team has fought all season long.
“We’ve got 13 to 14 guys who bust their butt every day and give it their all,” Justice said. “My [offensive] line kept fighting and pushing. They never stopped.”
Justice said he is very close with his 11 other senior teammates. For senior night Friday, he remembered the moments he has made with this group.
“It was emotional,” Justice said. “We’ve played with each other since pee wee. From here, to one more game, to one more game.”
Blackford could not find an answer to Mississinewa’s defense. A fumble on the Bruins’ own 40-yard line turned the ball over to the Indians, and they were able to take advantage of the miscue and turn it into points as Cade Campbell rushed for a 14-yard touchdown.
The Bruins were able to put up 13 points against Mississinewa’s defense, something they were not able to do last season.
The Bruins will begin the postseason Friday, Oct. 25 with a team they have previously faced this year in Eastbrook.
