Ball State Women’s Tennis continues to roll as they capture their fifth straight win over Wright State, 7-0. The team has now won 10 of their last 11 meets.

“Wright State is a very good program and they fight awfully hard,” head coach Max Norris said. “Anytime you can play a really competitive team and win, you gotta (sic) feel pretty good.”

Sophomore Lilya Hadab’s comeback win over Wright State’s Grace Whitney highlighted the teams Saturday night win.

Hadab lost the first set to Whitney 6-4 and was on the verge of losing the second set after falling behind 5-1. However, Hadab would rally, winning four straight games to tie the match at five a piece.

“Honestly, I was just thinking to hit one more ball,” Hadab said. “At the start, I was not hitting the backhand at all and (Whitney) knew that right away. She started missing and even though I couldn’t hit the back hand, I started finding a way to slice it and hit a forehand. Just one more point. One more point.”

Hadab lost the following game, but would fight back in the next one to tie the set at six, rallying again this time from a 4-1 point deficit.

“For me, that win was better than an easy win,” Hadab said. “We’re heading to MAC play, and knowing that I pulled out an ugly win like that helped me a lot and I’m pretty sure it helped my teammates.”

Coach Norris took notice of the strong camaraderie with his team.

“We went 11-11 last year and I think a lot of them felt and understood to almost win a match,” Norris said. “I think they all realized that you have to be a little more giving and willing to admit that you’re not perfect. We don’t teach them to cheer for each other and when they can do that amongst themselves, that’s very powerful.”

Other finishes from the Cardinals include doubles point victories from by Swiderski, sophomore Victoria Sec, senior Peyton Gollhofer and senior Isabelle Dohanics.

The Cardinals open up MAC play on Friday against Western Michigan in Kalamazoo.
