In its final tournament of the fall season, Ball State Women's Tennis traveled to Kalamazoo, Michigan for the Bronco Challenge. The team had a strong finish with a combined singles and doubles record of 20-10.

The Cardinals began the tournament on Friday with six doubles matches. In the first three matches, senior Peyton Gollhofer and sophomore Victoria Sec defeated a pair from Cleveland State, 6-3. Along with this win, seniors Audrey Berger and Isabelle Dohanics defeated a paring from Indiana, 6-3. In the second round of doubles, Gollhofer and Sec were the only Ball State pairing to win taking the match 7-5.

The Cardinals won five out of seven singles matches. Gollhofer continued her winning way in three sets over an opponent from Indiana (3-6, 6-0, 6-3). Berger also won her match and defeated a Broncos player (6-4, 6-3) and Dohanics did as well in two sets (6-2, 6-2).

The Cardinals won four doubles matches on the second day of the invitational. Senior Sarah Swiderski and Sec were two of the Cardinals pairs to win both of their matches. The other pair was Dohanics and sophomore Lilya Hadab. In the singles matches, the Cardinals won four of six matches. Building off of her success in doubles play, Dohanics won her second singles match in a row (6-2, 4-6, 6-2). Hadab defeated a player from Lewis in three sets (2-6, 6-4, 7-6).

The Cardinals finished its last day in Kalamazoo on Sunday with six singles matches. Dohanics was able to win her third match in three sets (7-5, 2-6, 6-1).

“Isabelle has been a gritty competitor for most of her career,” head coach Max Norris said. “I think in all of her matches that she has played, I would expect her to win. Because I think highly of her level of play and her competitive toughness.”

The Cardinals wrapped up its fall season with a combined record of 65-29. Norris said the record is shown as being both positive and negative.

“I think the record shows we’re headed in the right direction,” Norris said. “But it also shows that we have some work to do as well.”
