After a tight matchup on Friday, Ball State softball (23-10, 5-1 MAC) was looking for the series sweep against Akron (1-26, 0-5 MAC).  Four home runs in the first game gave the Cardinals an 9-1, and an offensive explosion in the fourth and fifth innings of the second game gave the Cardinals the sweep with a 16-5 win.

The first outing saw the Cardinals start off early with home runs from junior Olivia Huffman and Annie Robinson to put them up 6-0 in fourth inning. A homer from Akron in the fourth cut the lead to five, but sophomore Kennedy Wynn and freshman Stacy Payton would slam two more over the fence and close out the game.

In the second matchup, the Zips came out hot, scoring five straight runs for a 5-1 lead at the end of the second inning. However, that was all from the Zips offense as the Cardinals put up 15 runs from the third inning until the end. The onslaught was led by senior Maddie Labrador who opened the inning with a two-run home run. Sophomore Haley Dominique led the team in hits and runs with four in the Cardinals 16-5 win.

Junior Aeshia Miles was also strong on the mound as she struck out nine in the second game.

The Cardinals wrapped up their second weekend of conference play, going 3-0 and scoring a combined 30 runs over two days. Ball State will play its first home games of the season on Tuesday as they will face Northern Illinois.
