In the second outdoor meet of the season, Ball State track and field traveled to North Carolina State to compete in the Raleigh Relays.

On day one of the two-day meet, Cardinals finished with three top 10 finishes and five career-best performances. Sophomore Jazmin Smith placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.16 seconds. Freshman Jasmine Harris followed in ninth place with a career-best time of 14.34.

Sophomore Regan Lewis cleared the bar at 1.70 meters in the high jump to place second. The height was enough to meet the automatic Mid-American Conference qualifying mark.

She was only beat by .05 meters by Cincinnati’s Loretta Blaut.

“I was a little disappointed by Regan’s score,” head coach Brian Etelman said. “We usually want her around 1.75.”

In the events today, Etelman said freshman Brooke Tahlem had the best day.

"She doubled with the 4x400 meter relay and the 4x1500 meter relay and they both scored well,” Etelman said.

Senior Danielle Dahl ran the 800-meter dash for the first time since 2015. She placed 17th.

The 4x400 meter relay team made up of junior Gabby Sims, freshman Amber Jones Dahl and senior Olivia Ashba placed ninth with a time of 3:49.00.

The all-freshmen 4x1500 meter relay team of Hannah Cummings, Peyton Kneadler, Talhelm and Emily Tromp placed seventh. They finished their relay with a time of 19:25.92. The same team, except with Kneadler going first and Cummings going second, finished in eleventh place in the 4x400 meter relay at 9:18.70.

In the 4x100 meter relay, sophomore Peyton Stewart, Smith, Jones and junior Anna-Kay West finished in sixth place with a time of 46.79. They were .05 seconds away from a fifth place finish, instead, Hampton took it from them.

Next up for the Cardinals is the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
