Ball State track and field finished 10th in their first outdoor track meet at Butler University in the Stan Lyons Invitational.
Senior Danielle Dahl came back and ran for the first time in a year for the Cardinals after red-shirting last year. She ran in the 400-meter race and won it with a time of 58.72 seconds.
“[Dahl] is more of an 800-meter runner,” head coach Brian Etelman said, “so she stepped down and did a really good job today.”
Along with Dahl, junior Adrienne Mayfield started off the outdoor season right by winning in discus. She scored a personal best for herself with a 38.65 meter throw, 9.80 meters more than second-place Rachel Rehkamp from Eastern Kentucky.
The two Ball State teams for the 4x400-meter relay finished first and second. The first place team of freshman Jasmine Harris, freshman Amber Jones, sophomore Jazmin Smith and sophomore Peyton Stewart finished with a time of 3:58.50. The second place team of senior Olivia Ashba, Danielle Wrong, freshman Peyton Kneadler and junior Gabby Sims came close behind at 4:01.97.
Etelman said the Cardinals accomplished what they needed to and are excited to head down to North Carolina State for the Raleigh Relay next weekend.
