Two men were arrested Thursday for misleading Muncie police during the investigation into the early morning murder of 20-year-old Zach Farmer in the 800 block of West Main Street.

On Thursday afternoon, Hunter Hess, 19, and Isaiah Davis, 19, were arrested and charged with obstruction of justice, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of marijuana with intent to deal, according to probable cause affidavits.

According to the court documents, both Hess and Davis intentionally misled investigators about events surrounding the shooting.

Davis initially told investigators that an unknown black male entered his home, opened his bedroom door and fired shots into the room. Davis said he then grabbed his gun and emptied his magazine at the supposed intruder.

Hess, however, initially told police that neither he nor Davis had any guns in the house when the suspect entered the residence.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Hess said he and Davis noticed that Farmer had been shot during the commotion, and they later dragged Farmer's body outside to Hess' car. Neither Hess nor Davis called police or EMS.

Hess later told police that they never called for help because Davis was "hiding his guns and drugs," and as a result, Davis told Hess not to call the police. Hess also told investigators that Davis had received "five to ten pounds" of marijuana earlier that evening, causing a panic.

When police arrived on the scene they found a large bag of "what appeared to be marijuana" next to Davis' car, according to court documents. Police obtained a search warrant for the car and found three handguns, "large quantities" of marijuana and several Xanax prescription drugs.

After police confronted Hess and Davis with evidence, both admitted they had lied to police earlier in the investigation.

According to the Delaware County Jail, Davis is currently being held under a $20,000 bond and Hess was released Friday after posting a $15,000 bond.

At this time, neither Hess nor Davis are being arrested for Farmer's murder.

MPD is continuing the investigation.
