Ball State wide receiver KeVonn Mabon added another honor to his already impressive résumé Oct. 13.

The fifth-year senior was named one of 30 finalists nationwide for the 2016 Senior CLASS Award for football, given annually to a Division I student-athlete that excels in community, classroom, character and competition. Mabon is one of three nominees from the Mid-American Conference.

The CLASS Award is an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School. It honors athletes who use their position in athletics to make a difference in their community.

Mabon graduated from Ball State with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice last May and is one of five players on the current roster with a degree.

He has also completed several service projects with the football team, including work at the Muncie Animal Shelter, Muncie Boys & Girls Club and Second Harvest Food Bank.

On the field, Mabon is sixth in Ball State program history in catches (196) and receiving yards (2,305). The two-time all-MAC selection leads the Cardinals with 37 grabs and 415 yards so far this season.

The list of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award will be trimmed to 10 finalists midway through the season, who will be placed on a ballot for coaches, fans and media across the nation to vote. In addition to the winner, the 10 finalists will be honored on the first or second team.

The winner will be announced in early January.
