Ball State men’s golf will return to action in the Mason Rudolph Invitational

Ball State men’s golf's "A" team finished the first round of the Earl Yestingsmeier Memorial Invitational with a seven-stroke lead over second-place Cleveland State.

The Cardinals entered two teams into the tournament, hosted at the Delaware Country Club in Muncie.

Head coach Mike Fleck said he is happy to have the lead, but the Cardinals could have done better than their 19-over-par score of 719.

“We made more triples and other high scores than I can remember us ever making on this course before,” Fleck said. “We’ll wipe the slate clean and start tomorrow.”

Ball State redshirt sophomore Keegan McKinney is the individual leader after two rounds, working his way back from a 4-over-par through the first two holes to card an even-par 140.

“I just tried to stay patient and battle back,” McKinney said. “I wasn’t hitting as many good shots in the second round, but I made some really nice putts."

The final round of the tournament will be played April 16.
