The last time the Ball State women's tennis team lost was on Valentine's Day.

In a month that is well-known for the '"madness" associated with college basketball, women's tennis has been on a streak of its own, winning nine straight matches.

This season, the team boasts a 12-2 overall record. On March 18, the Cardinals travel to Dayton, Ohio to face Wright State (11-2) in its final match before conference action.

The Cardinals have recently returned from Orlando, Fla., where they found three more victories over Spring Break. Ball State concluded its stay with an impressive 4-3 win over James Madison (8-4), serving them only their fourth loss on the season.

The women’s tennis team has been powered by a number of players this season, both on the singles and doubles courts.

In singles action, the Cardinals have been led by sophomore Carmen Blanco and junior Toni Ormond. Ormond, who has won her last eight matches, is 10-4 in singles this season. Blanco has aided the team with 13 singles appearances, winning 10 matches so far.

Blanco and Ormond have one last test before conference play begins. Wright State, as of recently, has been propelled by two of its own singles players, juniors Elaine Cloern and Vanessa Madrigal. Cloern has won four of her last five matches, while Madrigal is currently on a six-match win streak.

On the doubles court, the Cardinals have found success in a number of different matchups. However, three doubles pairs for the women’s tennis team have begun to shine in the first half of the season. Freshmen Peyton Gollhofer and Audrey Berger have supplied the most power so far for the Cardinals, winning eight of 10 matches. Junior Rosalinda Calderon and Blanco have teamed up for eight matches. They have pulled ahead for the victory in six of them. The third doubles pair is sophomore Julia Sbircea and Ormond, who have won seven of their eight matches.

The match against Wright State is set to begin at 7 p.m.
