The Ball State track and field team turned out eight career-best performances at its 2-4 dual record at the Stan Lyons Invitational, hosted by Butler University on March 19.

In their first meet of the outdoor season, the Cardinals fielded eight of the meet's 15 possible events. Ball State's victories came against Loyola (52-21) and Morehead State (43-27). The team's four losses came against Butler (80-36), Eastern Kentucky (55-30), Wright State (59-35) and Xavier (53-41).

The women had nine top-five finishes for the weekend’s events, eight of which were career-best performances.

First-place finishes came from senior Zenée Gadson in the triple jump with her 11.30-meter finish, as well as the 4x400m relay team of sophomore Gabby Sims, senior Becca Kropf, freshman Amber McGee and freshman Peyton Stewart, who finished with a time of 3:59.91.

Ball State also had four second-place finishes in the meet in the high jump, javelin, 4x400m relay and 400m dash. Freshman Regan Lewis' 1.67m high jump and junior Kassidy Swenson's 1:01.14 400m dash finish were both career bests.

Other top-five finishes came from junior Jordan Timmons (1500m run, 4:49.83, 5th), junior Gabrielle Perryman (triple jump, 10.85m, 4th), senior Michaela Hull (javelin, 36.25m, 2nd), Lewis (javelin, 33.18m, 5th) and two other Cardinal relay teams placing 2nd and 4th in the 4x400m relay.

Ball State will return to action March 24 at the Polar Bear Invitational in Marion, Ind.
