Field Hockey hires new assistant coach

Smither was a two-time All-American midfielder and defender at Old Dominion University. In 2014, her senior season, she won the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Scholar Athlete of the Year award.

At Old Dominion, Smither played field hockey with Cardinal head coach Christy Longacre. Longacre was also a first-team All-American in 2013.

Smither, from Suffolk, Virginia, also set a national high school record with 124 career assists.

She received her bachelor's degree in sport management from Old Dominion in 2014 and will complete her master's program in May.
