Ball State women’s golf will play its first tournament of the new year at the FGCU Eagle Invitational in Estero, Fla. on Friday.

Even though some southern schools can practice outdoors more often in the offseason, head coach Katherine Mowat said she thinks that this tournament will be a great place to get back in the swing of things.

“For every team in this tournament, it’s our first competition in three months," she said. "Whether you’re a southern school or a northern school, you’re in the same boat.”

Mowat said the team has been careful not to set goals in terms of numbers or scores. Instead, she said, the Cardinals' goals are more long-term.

Mowat has “talked a lot about the process, course management, emotion management, sticking to the routine” because, she said, the scores will come naturally if the players follow the process.

The biggest goal, Mowat said, is to improve throughout the season and peak in the conference tournament.

Juniors Allison Lindley and Kelsey Sear, sophomores Kayla Adamson and Morgan Nadaline and freshman Sydney Anderson will start for the Cardinals. Senior Meghan McDougall will also be traveling to compete as an individual.

Tee time is 8:15 a.m. and play will continue through Sunday.
