WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State falls 3-1 to Ohio

The Ball State women’s volleyball team dropped a 3-1 match to defending Mid-American Conference champion Ohio on Oct. 17 at Worthen Arena. 

The loss drops the Cardinals to 5-2 in conference play, snapping a four-match winning streak.

After losing set one, the Cardinals fought back to win set two before dropping the final two sets.

Offensively, Alex Fuelling led Ball State with 12 kills. Redshirt junior Hayley Benson was the only other Cardinal in double figures with 10 kills.

Redshirt freshman Sabrina Mangapora added nine kills in the match.

Ball State had 44 total kills in the match, with a .134 attack percentage. The Cardinals’ best offensive set came in the third when they converted on 17 out of 37 attacks for a .351 percentage.

Starting setter Jenna Spadafora assisted on 35 of the team’s 44 kills.

Ohio was able to record 54 kills in the match, paced by an overall .265 attack percentage.

Ball State posted eight team blocks, led by redshirt junior Kelly Hopkins with one solo block and 3 assists.

Libero Kati Vasalakis and Fuelling both recorded 13 digs to tie for team-high honors.

Ball State now has an overall record of 11-9.

The Cardinals return to action at 7 p.m. on Oct. 17 when they host MAC foe Kent State.
