Two members of the Ball State women's golf team entered the final day of play at the Cardinal Classic with an opportunity to finish in first place.

Junior Meghan McDougall (150) began round two with a three-shot lead, after firing 69 on Sept. 22. She was unable to hold her lead, posting an 81 and finishing tied for eighth place.

After shooting par on Sept. 22, sophomore Kelsey Sear (149) started the final round tied in second place. Like McDougall, however, Sear struggled Sept. 23, including shooting a double bogey on the fifth hole, finishing the round shooting 77. She finished in a four-way tie for fourth place, leading all Ball State golfers.

“I’m very pleased with Kelsey’s performance,” head coach Katherine Mowat said in a statement. “To finish fourth in a field of nearly 100 golfers is fantastic.”

Junior Allison Lindley (162) began her career as a Cardinal as the team’s top finisher in the first two events of the fall schedule. The Kokomo, Ind., native was unsuccessful in making it three for three, finishing seventh out of the nine Cardinals who played the classic and tied for 57th overall.

Ball State (621) finished in sixth place, a shot behind Northern Illinois (620).

The Ball State women's golf team returns to action on Oct. 6, traveling to Maineville, Ohio, to compete in the Bearcat Invitational at TPC River’s Bend.
