The softball team defeated Eastern Michigan 8-0 in five innings this afternoon on Senior Day at the Ball State Softball Complex for the first game of a weekend series.

Starting pitcher Nicole Steinbach was able to blank the Eagles, tossing a complete game shutout.

Steinbach allowed just four hits in the game as the defense committed one error behind her. The win improved Steinbach’s season record to 14-10.

Offensively, Ball State used a four-run third inning to build its lead that it would keep for the remainder of the game.

Ball State had nine total hits in the game. Shortstop Selena Reyna was 3-3 in the game with four RBIs, including a walk-off grand slam. Center fielder Briana Evans had two hits for the Cardinals. Seniors Jennifer Gilbert and Audrey Bickel contributed two RBIs apiece.

With the win, the Cardinals improve their conference record to 11-4 and stay in the hunt for a Mid-American Conference title. The team will wrap up its regular season schedule at 1 p.m. Saturday against Eastern Michigan.
