Fourth Quarter

Western Michigan opened the fourth quarter with good field position, down at the Ball State 14-yard line. After three plays, the Broncos scored on an eight-yard touchdown pass to make the score 24-10. Ball State answered with a 13-play 80-yard drive, ending with a Keith Wenning touchdown pass. The senior broke Ball State’s career passing touchdown record on a two-yard pass to tight end Zane Fakes. The record-breaking pass gave Ball State a 31-10 advantage. Western Michigan punted on its next drive, setting Ball State up for another scoring drive. A nine-play, 76-yard drive ended with a 25-yard run by Jahwan Edwards, putting Ball State ahead 38-10. A muffed catch on the ensuing kickoff gave Ball State possession at the Western Michigan 27-yard line. Quarterback Ozzie Mann took over in the Ball State backfield, just to throw an interception three plays later. Western Michigan scored on a fumble recovery in the last seconds.

UPDATE: During the fourth quarter, Wenning has broken the Ball State record for career passing touchdowns with 75.

Third Quarter

To open the second half, Wenning hit Willie Snead for a 27-yard catch-and-run. Snead lost the ball as he entered the end zone, but the initial ruling of a touchdown was upheld. Western Michigan drove the ball down to Ball State’s two-yard line, but the Cardinals’ defense held up at the goal line for the second straight week. Tyree Holder broke up the fourth down pass. After a short offensive possession, Ball State was forced to punt. Western Michigan marched down to the Ball State 14-yard line before the quarter ended.

Second Quarter

On Ball State’s first drive of the quarter, it was short of the first down marker at the 18-yard line. The Cardinals went for it, but Jahwan Edwards was stopped short, leading to a turnover on downs. Horactio Banks tore off a 38-yard touchdown run for the first end zone celebration of the game. On Ball State’s next drive, Keith Wenning hit Jamill Smith, who ran into the end zone for another score. Western Michigan responded with a 42-yard completion, but a sack knocked the Broncos out of field goal range.

On the half’s final play, Broncos quarterback David Terrell threw an interception to Quinton Cooper.

First Quarter

Western Michigan deferred to open the game, and Ball State’s first drive stalled. Western Michigan took advantage by kicking a 41-yard field goal. On Ball State’s ensuing drive, it marched 51 yards in 12 plays, but had to settle for a 37-yard field goal. When the quarter ended, they were tied 3-3, and Ball State had possession at a first and 10.
