WOMEN'S GOLF: Ball State to play in IU Invite

The Ball State women’s golf team will compete in the Indiana University Invitational this weekend. Despite a rocky start this spring, the team’s confidence is solid heading into the two-day event.

A streak of nasty northern Indiana weather kept the team from practicing on a consistent schedule, and on top of that they were traveling cross-country on a regular basis.

A trip to Blanco, Texas, in mid-February resulted in a 6th place finish. Then it was to Arizona, and finally to Arkansas where the team finished 10th and 13th, respectively.

Behind an individual first-place finish from sophomore Jenna Hague, the team finished second in a field of 14 at the Eastern Kentucky Colonel Classic last weekend. Hague was named Middle-American Conference Co-Golfer of the Week after her performance.

It was her best three-day total as a Cardinal.

“I struggled in the first three tournaments,” Hague said. “To put together three solid scores that totaled to my best is a really big confidence booster.”

The team has just two events remaining before the Middle-American Conference Championship on Friday, April 26.

Head coach Katherine Mowat believes the team is peaking at the right time, and it is not without mental focus and perseverance that they have done so.

“The number one thing we’ve had to do, is be patient – and believe in ourselves,” Mowat said. “Their sprits didn’t fade, and their determination didn’t fade.”
