BASEBALL: Maloney earns 600th career win

Win comes in 6-2 win over Lipscomb

Rich Maloney earned his 600th coaching win as Ball State (3-3) beat Lipscomb 6-2 on Saturday.

The Ball State coach amassed 256 wins at Ball State from 1996-2002 before returning to Ball State in the offseason.

Ball State continued to swing the bat well, tallying 11 hits in the team’s third win.

Senior left fielder Blake Beemer opened up the scoring with a double to left field, scoring senior center fielder Wes Winkle and senior first basemen Billy Wellman.

Sophomore shortstop Elbert Devarie added three hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs.

Scott Baker started the game for the Cardinals and escaped trouble multiple times to hold the Bisons to two runs in five innings of work. Senior left-handed pitcher Jon Cisna closed the door for the Cardinals in four innings, allowing no runs and striking out two batters.

Ball State will return to action against Bradley on Sunday at 11 a.m. Ball State defeated Bradley on Friday 7-4 to open the second weekend of play.
