WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cardinals ranked 87th in first RPI poll

Mid-American Conference's highest ranked team is Bowling Green at 68th

The newly released NCAA women's volleyball RPI rankings are a bit down on the Mid-American Conference in 2012.

Ball State (9-8) is ranked No. 87 so far this season compared to where it ended last year ranked No. 36.

The rest of the MAC didn't fare much better in the released rankings.

The MAC's highest ranked team is Bowling Green (8-7) at 68th, a step up from last year's finish at 138.

Ball State's best win this season has been against Wyoming, which is rated No. 98 in RPI.

The Cardinals have also had tough losses, one of its most damaging being a three-set loss to North Texas (17-6). The lack of top heavy MAC teams like in years past could prevent a lot of improvement in Ball State's RPI.

Ball State next faces a team higher than it in the rankings in Central Michigan at 7 p.m. Friday at home.
