MEN'S GOLF: Ball State golfer wins Indiana Amateur Championship

No. 1 golfer posted a 285 three-under par in event

Even during the offseason junior Ball State men's golfer Tyler Merkel continues to bring home the hardware.

The Cardinals' No. 1 golfer won the 112th Indiana Amateur Championship at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.

Merkel bested 155 other amateur golfers who traveled to the course from all over the state.

He finished the four-round event with a 285, which was three-under par.

Merkel entered the fourth round tied in first place with former Ball State golfer Scott Pieri before taking a lead on the first hole after Pieri bogeyed.

He won $750 worth of merchandise from the home golf course for winning.

Senior golfer Tony Lazzara finished tied for eighth with a 295 seven-over par in the event.
