Ball State, Kathy Bull end lawsuit with $710,000 settlement

Bull receives package of $550,000 in cash, health benefits for life

The lawsuit filed by former women's tennis coach Kathy Bull against Ball State has finally been brought to a close.

Ball State settled the case Tuesday for a package of $710,000, according to a news release by one of Bull's lawyers, Baine Kerr. The settlement included $550,000 in cash and health benefits for life.

The former coach of 21 years filed suit against Ball State in October 2010 after she was fired.

Kerr said the plaintiff's argument was that Ball State's reasons and proceedings in firing Bull centered around her criticism of the university's approach toward Title IX. At the time Bull was fired, the Department of Education Office of Civil Rights was beginning to investigate Ball State for Title IX violations.

Both sides met on June 12 to discuss the settlement, but left the meeting without reaching a resolution.
