MEN'S GOLF: Weather forces early end of MAC Championships; Ball State takes 4th

Kent State wins the tournament by over 40 strokes

Golf's greatest enemy struck the final round of the Mid-American Conference Championships on Sunday, leading to an fourth-place finish for the Ball State men's golf team.

Several lightning and rain delays lead to the eventual cancelation of the tournament held at Rich Harvest Farms Golf Course in Sugar Grove, Ill.

By rule, the final results were determined by the three-round total.

Ball State's 35-over par score of 899 was three strokes behind third-place Ohio (+32 896) and four behind second-place Eastern Michigan (31+ 895).

Kent State blew away the competition with a nine-under final score of 855 to win the conference tournament title.

Junior Joe Gasser secured Ball State's best individual score, finishing in a tie for 10th with a five-over 221. Junior Brodie Williams posted a seven-over 223, tying for 13th.

Junior Tony Lazzara was next best with a 12-over 228 to tie for 24th, while sophomore Tyler Merkel shot a 14-over 230 to tie for 28th. Senior TJ Carpenter rounded out the lineup with a 17-over 233 to finish in a tie for 33rd.
