WOMEN'S TENNIS: Road games hurting Ball State

Cardinals are 1-9 away from its home court this season

The Ball State women's tennis team may want to try to schedule less road games in 2013, because that seems to be its Achilles heel in 2012.

The Cardinals are 4-2 at home in Muncie, but just 1-9 on the road this season. This weekend certainly didn't help their record, as they dropped two more conference games.

On Friday, Ball State lost to Eastern Michigan 5-2. The only players to win were No. 1 freshman Courtney Wild and No. 5 senior Sarah Hebble.

Wild beat Nino Mebuke 6-4, 6-4.

The Eagles swept the Cardinals in doubles.

On Saturday, Ball State put up a decent fight, but still lost to Toledo, 4-3.

After shaking up their order, the Cardinals won the doubles point for the first time since Feb. 29. Junior Paola Rodriguez was moved to the No. 2 slot alongside Hebble. The team beat the Rockets 9-7.

Wild went 2-0 in singles in the weekend as she beat Toledo's Kelsey Anonsen 6-7 (2), 7-6 (5), 10-4. Wild now has 10 singles win in 2012.

Also winning against the Rockets was freshman Ashlyn Rang, who beat Chrissy Coffman 6-0, 6-2. Rang is 6-10 so far this season in singles.

The Cardinals will return home this weekend and continue Mid-American Conference play. They host Western Michigan at 1 p.m. Friday, and Bowling Green at 1 p.m. Saturday.
