WOMEN'S GOLF: Ball State opens play in Arkansas tournament

Addition of Zoe Camus has added new element to the CardinalsGÇÖ struggling lineup

A two-week break with warm sunny weather has given the Ball State women's golf team ample time to improve. It's time to see if that hard work will produce results.

Ball State will open competition in the 54-hole Arkansas-Little Rock Golf Classic on Monday at the Diamante Country Club in Hot Springs Village, Ark. The tournament will continue through the final round on Tuesday.

Nineteen teams, including Ball State, will compete in the tournament. Eastern Michigan is the only other Mid-American Conference team that will play.

The Cardinals lineup will feature freshman Jenna Hague; sophomores Meghan Perry and Sarah Westaway; and juniors Zoe Camus and Autumn Duke.

Camus will make her third appearance for Ball State after she signed on with the team in December. Camus, a native of France, is eligible to play during the 2012 spring season and the full 2012-13 season as she attends Ball State for graduate school.

She's already made immediate strides since her arrival. Playing in the Western Tri Match, her first match with the team, Camus tied for seventh with an 81. She went on lead the Cardinals in the Rio Verde Invitational, tying for 24th in the field with a low-round score of 72.

The addition of Camus could be exactly what Ball State needs to place higher in tournaments. Since Brittany Kelly's graduation last spring, the role as the team's top golfer has fluctuated throughout the season, landing with different players in the lineup in each tournament.

Following Ball State's spring opener, coach Katherine Mowat said Hague had performed well enough to be counted on as the team's top player. With Camus on board, Hague will have more time to develop at her own pace in her freshman year.

The first round Arkansas-Little Rock Golf Classic will begin at 8:30 this morning and conclude with the final round, also beginning at 8:30 a.m., on Tuesday.
