WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Ball State's season ends with loss to Central Michigan

Grossnickle sets second straight career-high with 25 points in final game as Ball State player

Four days after scoring a career-high 20 points on Senior Day, senior captain Suzanne Grossnickle did five points better against Central Michigan on Saturday. She poured in 25 points in a play-in game for the Mid-American Conference Tournament, but her efforts were in vain.

Ball State lost 86-62 to Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant, Mich., ending the Cardinals' season.

Grossnickle scored her 25 off 10-of-15 from the field and 3-of-3 from the foul line.

Despite Grossnickle's offensive dominance Saturday, it didn't translate to the defensive end. The Cardinals were outscored in the paint 64-20.

Freshman Brittany Carter scored eight points on 3-11 shooting.

Ball State also lost the turnover battle, committing 28 turnovers to Central Michigan's 10.

The loss raises questions about the future of the program, as the two tallest players on the team, Grossnickle and Amber Crago, won't be returning next season. Jonessa Moore, a 6-2 forward, missed most of 2011 due to academic reasons.

With the win, Central Michigan will advance to Cleveland to play against Ohio on Wednesday.

The Cardinals finished 9-21 in 2011-12, the same record as last season.
