SOFTBALL: Winning streak ends as Ball State goes 1-1 on Saturday

Workman pitches shutout against Dayton

Junior Amanda Carpenter homered for the third time this year, but the Ball State softball team wasn't able to extend its winning streak to eight games on Saturday.

The Cardinals split their two games, dropping the first to Loyola 5-4 before shutting out Dayton 6-0 for their 14th win of the season.

Senior Kim Mazzapica (7-2) picked up only her second loss of the season, giving up five earned runs on 12 hits while also allowing four walks.

Senior Audrey Workman ended up shutting down Dayton in the second game, giving up only three hits and striking out eight. She was also able to limit the Flyers to one walk, which at times has been a struggle for the Cardinals this year.

Ball State continues in the Miami Invitational against Loyola on Sunday at 10 a.m. followed by Niagra at noon.
