GYMNASTICS: Ball State finishes last in MAC Championships

Julie Cotter earns the only top-3 finish of the competition

The competition was too tough for the Ball State gymnastics team to handle this weekend. It came in last at the Mid-American Conference Championship hosted by Northern Illinois.

With a score of 192.950, the team fell to seventh out of seven teams in the MAC. Central Michigan University walked away with the championship title scoring 195.675. The title marks was the third strait championship for the Chippewas.

Ball State did tally one top three finish this weekend. Senior, Julie Cotter scored 9.875, earning her a first place finish on bars. The score is Cotter's best score of the season.

Nicole Allen was the only Cardinal to compete in the all-around competition. Allen pulled out a seventh place finish out of nine competitors. Vault and floor were Allen's best scores of the night, scoring 9.850 on both. Allen tied for fourth on vault and tied for fifth on floor.

Freshman Brooklyn Shumacher finished her bars routine with a score of 9.750.

The team will find out if Nicole Allen will be awarded an invitation to compete in the NCAA Central Regional competition on Monday. Allen has been the only consistent all-around competitor for Ball State this season.
