GYMNASTICS: Ball State falls on Senior Night

Team rallies on floor, but can't take advantage in loss to Pittsburgh

Senior night ended in with a less than perfect outcome for Ball State gymnastics. The team could not send the seniors away with a last win at home. Ball State lost 194.4 to 192.250 against Pittsburgh.

Ball State started the night off rocky losing the first three rotations on vault, bars and beam. The team rallied back when it came to floor posting a 48.775 over Pittsburgh's 48.5.

"There were some really good moments that we will want to package and take with us to conference," coach Nadalie Walsh said. "Then there were some slip ups. We took some risks today because we had to prepare for conference."

Nicole Allen once again led the team placing second in the all-around competition. Allen also tied for first on bars with a 9.725. On vault she tied for second. The final event was floor; Allen shared a third place honor with teammates Aftyn Siemer and Angie Hosbach.

"Can't say enough good things about that girl [Allen]," Walsh said. "She is just such a good competitor and she has done an amazing job of keeping herself calm this year. She has had another great all-around score, which is really going to help her out with going to regionals. "

Leah Wilson was the only other Cardinal to score in the top three tonight. Wilson tied for second with Katie O'Rourke of Pittsburgh. Both gymnasts scores 9.775.

"I am really happy with how I have been doing," Wilson said. "I have been working really hard. Last meet wasn't very good, but this meet I got redemption."

With Mid-American Conference Championships a week away from Saturday and Northern Illinois, the team has a few things to polish and keep up.

"We want to go out there have fun, do gymnastics, be proud and know that there is nothing to lose," Walsh said. "This year every school in our conference has been inconsistent at some point so it is anybody's meet."
