The Ball State women's tennis team righted the ship Wednesday afternoon with a 6-1 win at Butler. The win moved Cardinals' to a .500 record at 5-5. Before Wednesday's win, Ball State had been sitting on a five-game losing streak.
Ball State opened the match on a positive note as it won the doubles point with senior Dena Boulieris and junior Lauren Pickrel beating Butler 8-6 after coming back from a 5-4 hole.
Senior Sarah Hebble and freshman Ashlyn Rang beat Brittany Farmer and Cam Thompson, 8-2.
Also in doubles, freshman Courtney Wild and sophomore Kristel Sanders lost to Stephanie McLoughlin and Angelina Rubenstein, 9-7.
Farmer would eventually get her revenge as she beat Rang in singles play 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
Wild fell behind early to McLoughlin in singles, but she eventually overcame her deficit to win, 2-6, 7-5, 6-2.
Also needing three sets to win was Sanders, who beat Gabrielle Rubenstein 5-7, 6-2, 6-1.
"The girls had lots of ups and downs in the matches ... It was good to see 1, 2 and 3 come back and split. The entire team was super loud, super in their face and just fought really hard every point. That made a big impact in the match," coach Christine Bader said.
Senior Kylee Johnson beat Thompson in singles 6-4, 6-2, her third singles win of the 2012 season.
The Cardinals have a special trip to make over Spring Break as they make a trip to Orlando for a match at James Madison at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
"It will be a tough match, but it will be good to get a week of practice outdoors under our belt before we go into conference season," Bader said.
