WOMEN'S TENNIS: Ball State drops two matches over the weekend

Rang, Sanders end losing streak in singles with wins over UW-Milwaukee

Just three short weeks ago, the Ball State women's tennis team was 4-0, fresh off a sweep against Detroit Mercy. Now, it's 4-5 and reeling from a pair of road losses to Marquette and UW-Milwaukee.

Ball State lost 5-2 to Marquette, and lost 4-3 to UW-Milwaukee.

The only two Cardinals to win against Marquette were No. 5 Sarah Hebble and No. 6 Lauren Pickrel. Hebble beat Rocio Diaz 6-4, 6-4Pickrel beat Kristina Radan 6-3, 1-6, 10-8.

The Cardinals had a rough start to the match against the Golden Eagles as the doubles teams were all swept.

No.2 Kristel Sanders lost to Marquette 6-1, 6-1, but beat her UW-Milwaukee opponent 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. Sanders won her first singles match since playing against against Detroit Mercy.

Freshman Ashley Rang earned a much-needed win as well, beating Kelly Fritz 6-4, 6-1 for her first win since February 3rd.

Hebble, a senior, played at the No. 5 singles spot for the first time all season. She had previously played at No. 4. The change seemed to rejuvenate her, as she had lost two straight matches before winning two this weekend.

No. 1 Courtney Wild lost both of her matches over the weekend. She fell to Marquette 6-0, 6-3, and lost to UW-Milwaukee 6-7, 6-3, 6-4. However, she is still 6-3 in total singles play.

Ball State's next match is this Wednesday at Butler at 3 p.m.
