SOFTBALL: Workman, Rager pick up three MAC awards

Rager hit two homeruns, four RBIs in opening weekend

After opening its season with a 2-2 record last weekend at the Quality Inn Classic, the Ball State softball team received three accolades from the Mid-American Conference on Tuesday.

Sophomore first baseman Taylor Rager was named the MAC West Division Player of the Week and the College Sports Madness MAC Softball Player of the Week. On offense, Rager hit .615 with two homeruns, four RBIs and two walks in the opening weekend. She also had 30 putouts with no fielding errors and two assists.

"It feels nice, but this game is about team," Rager said. "It's not about one person. I'm glad I can help the team out, but that's really all that [accolades] means to me."

Senior right-hander Audrey Workman received the MAC West Division Pitcher of the Week after posting a 1-2 record and a 2.52 ERA. She also recorded 10 strikeouts in 16.2 innings of work.

"I was a little shocked by it [the award]," Workman said. "I'm happy about it, but at the same time, it's a team effort. My team helped me get that award, so I congratulate the whole team as well as myself."

Ball State will return to action this weekend when it plays in the Frost Classic Inspired by Memorial in Chattanooga, Tenn. First pitch will be on Friday at 11 a.m. against Troy.
