After needing a second half comeback Wednesday night to secure a victory, the Ball State women's basketball team hopes to have an easier time with another conference foe today when it travels to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan to take on Central Michigan.
The Cardinals are coming off an exhilarating win against the Huskies, where they led 30-18 at halftime, then watched it all come apart at the seams late as they fell down 41-40 with just over four minutes left. Ball State then went on a 10-2 run to win the game.
Four players scored over nine points Wednesday night, even though just one, sophomore forward Jazmin Hitchens, is averaging double digits for the season at 11.6 points per game.
Hitchens has been the primary scorer for the Cardinals since returning from a suspension early in the season.
Standout freshman Brittany Carter has also been productive option on offense.
Carter, a St. Louis native, has provided the team with the ability to score from long range, leading the team with 28 three-pointers. She also leads the team in three-point percentage with a .431 average.
The Chippewas enter the contest with a 10-7 overall record, 2-1 in the Mid-American Conference, coming off a big win at home against Western Michigan, 93-85.
Two players that the Cardinals will have to contain today are freshmen Crystal Bradford and Jessica Green. Green led the Chippewas in scoring Wednesday night against the Broncos with 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including 2-2 from behind the three-point line.
Bradford was second in scoring against Western Michigan, but leads the team in overall scoring, averaging 15.4 points per game. Not only is she dangerous due to her scoring, but also because of her rebounding. Bradford leads the team with 7.5 rebounds per game.
With a win today, the Cardinals would move to 3-1 in the conference, and first place in the MAC West.
