MEN'S BASKETBALL: Ball State gets win over Toledo from last second basket

Jones lifts Cardinals to win, four-game win streak

Following a Toledo layup with under seven seconds left to tie the game at 68-68, Ball State had one last shot to avoid overtime.

With 6.5 seconds remaining, Ball State senior guard Randy Davis drove the length of the court and dished it to the waiting arms of senior forward Jarrod Jones under the basket for the 70-68 game winner with 0.6 left

Ball State (10-4, 2-0 Mid-American Conference) has now won three consecutive games against Toledo dating back to last season. The win was the second straight win at Savage Arena for Ball State after losing the previous eight games dating back to 2002.

The Cardinal's winning streak extends to four games while the Rockets have dropped their first two MAC games.

Jones, a preseason All-MAC selection, led the Cardinals in scoring with 22 point and eight boards. Jones has scored 20 or more in eight of the Cardinals first fourteen games. He's been named MAC West Player of the Week four separate times.

Sophomore guard Jesse Berry sparked the Cardinals in the first half with 12 points on 4-for-5 shooting from 3-point range. Berry finished the game with 18 points and added a fifth 3-pointer in the second half.

Davis contributed with six points, five assists and three steals on the night.

Toledo (8-8, 0-2 MAC) was led in scoring by Rian Pearson and Dominique Buckley with 19 and 16 points, respectively.

Ball State shot 53 percent from beyond the arc while holding Toledo to 30 percent.

The win puts the Cardinals atop of the MAC West standings with a 2-0 record and will host Eastern Michigan this Saturday.
