GYMNASTICS: Chippewas topple visiting Cardinals

Senior Julie Cotter ties for first on the bars

Central Michigan sent the Ball State gymnastics team back to Muncie winless Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals lost to the Chippewas 190.100 to 193.350.

Ball State had five gymnasts score or tie for a top three ranking on Saturday.

Senior Julie Cotter was the top-ranked competitor tying for first place with Central Michigan's Kylie Fagan and Brittany Petzold. They had a score of 9.775 on their bars routine.

The main focus at Ball State's practice this week was the vault, said coach Nadalie Walsh. The team's preparation showed, as junior Nicole Allen tied for second with Central Michigan's Meaghan McWhorter, scoring a 9.750. Sophomore Aftyn Siemer placed third on vault with a 9.700 score.

Sophomore Angie Hosback placed second on her floor routine with a score of 9.725.

Senior Kayla Kmiecik, last week's Mid-American Conference Gymnast of the Week, placed third on the beam with a score of 9.625.

Ball State will be back on their home floor in Irving Gym at 7 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals will host the Kent State Golden Flashes. Kent State is 1-1 in both its overall record and in the MAC, while Ball State is now 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the MAC.
