As snow falls outside, things are heating up on the floor for the Ball State gymnastics team.
At 1 p.m. on Saturday the team travels to Mount Pleasant, Mich. to take on Central Michigan.
The Cardinal's are currently 1-1 on the season, both losing and winning to Illinois State in back-to-back weekends, respectively.
"As a whole they did a really good job of coming off of the win and getting back down to business," coach Nadalie Walsh said. "They are not happy with a 191. They want better than that."
The highlights of last week's meet included floor, vault and bars.
On the floor, Kayla Kmiecik and Aftyn Siemer tied for first in the event while Brooklyn Schumacher and Kristin Vignola took second and third place, respectively.
"We want to go into this meet and just make and hit our routines the way we did against ISU, but make them cleaner and be a little bit more controlled in the landings," Walsh said.
On vault last Friday, Nicole Allen tied for first and also competed as an all-around competitor.
"We focused a lot on vault [in practice]," Walsh said. "We worked on a lot of details to make sure each part is done perfectly."
Also this week, Kmiecik was named Mid-American Conference Gymnast of the Week.
"I was so excited about her getting that award," Walsh said. "She has been one of those gymnasts that have always been there and always been valuable but she hasn't always gotten the recognition."
The team is looking to catch fire this weekend and cool down the Chippewas.
