WOMEN'S TENNIS: Wild leads Cards into Ball State Invitational

Freshman has been impressing despite still adjusting to college

The Ball State women's tennis team, led by standout freshman Courtney Wild, will look to continue its great start to the fall season as they host the Ball State Invitational this weekend.

Wild played outstanding in last weekend's MAC Invitational, winning three straight matches to finish as the champion of her bracket. Now she is perhaps the best player on the team.

"Not only is [Wild] a great tennis player, she's also just a great teammate," coach Christine Bader said.

However, Wild's fast start hasn't been easy for her, as the adjustment for any freshman can be difficult, let alone one coming in and ascending to the Cardinals' top spot so quickly.

"It's super difficult when we're in season where we have a tournament," Wild said of the transition. "It's hard to manage both school and tennis, especially when you're missing a school day to play a sport."

This weekend will be a challenge to the squad, but Bader is confident in her team's chances.

"Each girl has different things they need to work on," Bader said. "We're just looking forward to competing really hard this weekend and getting after some more victories."

The Ball State Invitational will begin Friday at 9 a.m. and conclude Saturday. All matches are scheduled to be played at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center, weather permitting.
