WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State wins MAC opener 3-1 over Toledo

Kara Bates leads the Cards in kills with 18, Fredrich finishes with 23 digs

The Ball State women's volleyball team won it's Mid-American Conference opener against Toledo 3-1 Thursday night in Worthen Arena. 

Junior outside hitter Kara Bates led Ball State with 18 kills on the night. Fellow outside hitter Whitney Heeres finished behind her with 13 kills, while senior middle hitter Jennifer Boyd had 10. 

Coach Steve Shondell praised right-side hitter Lauren Grant following the match, saying her presence in the third and fourth games helped give the Cardinals the advantage in the match.
