WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State falls flat against Michigan State

Spartans hand Cardinals their second consecutive loss

The Spartan Invitational opened with a dud from Ball State Friday night. 

Michigan State swept Ball State 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-18) in each team's first match of the tournament. 

Sophomore libero Catie Fredrich did her best on defense, earning a match-best 11 digs. 

Sopohomore outside hitter Whitney Heeres led the team in kills with nine. Junior outside hitter Kata Bates and senior middle blocker Kelsey Brandl had six kills in the match. 

Ball State will play two matches today. The first will come against Sacred Heart at 10 a.m., while the second will be against Virginia Commonwealth at 5:30 p.m.
