MEN'S GOLF: Ball State in seventh after two rounds

Merkel and Gasser lead team with scores of one-under-par

The Ball State men's golf team is now in seventh after a second round score of 586 (+10) at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Burlington, Iowa.

The Cardinals bounced back in the tournament after finishing in eleventh in the first round.

Tennessee-Chattanooga is in first, but has not completed its second round of play due to a rain delay.

Sophomore Tyler Merkel and junior Joe Gasser both shot a 143 (-1) to lead the Cardinals and tied for seventh. Senior TJ Carpenter is tied for 33rd with a 149 (+5). Junior Tony Lazzara is tied for 46th with a round of 151 (+7). Rounding out the lineup, junior Alex Stinson is tied for 71st with a 160 (+16).

Ball State is coming off of two strong tournaments in which two Cardinals have been co-medalists. Merkel was a co-medalist two weeks ago in the Northern Intercollegiate. A week later, Carpenter was a co-medalist at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational.

Ball State will finish the final 18 holes tomorrow starting at 9 a.m.
