FOOTBALL: Ball State linebacker wins MAC Defensive Player of Week

Freeman becomes second Cardinal in three weeks to earn award

For the second time in three weeks, a Ball State defensive player was named Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week.

Junior linebacker Travis Freeman was named to player of the week Monday after his performance in the 28-25 win over Buffalo on Saturday. He joins sophomore defensive tackle Nathan Ollie, who won the award in Week 1 after he recorded four tackles and two sacks against Indiana.

Against Buffalo, Freeman led the team with a season-high 12 tackles, including a tackle for loss. He also had a team-high 10 tackles in the season opener against Indiana.

Freeman was the leading tackler for the Cardinals in both those games and has recorded has 29 tackles on the season.

His durability has continued as he has started 26 consecutive games in the 27 games of his career.
