CROSS COUNTRY: Ball State opens season at Miami

Four freshmen will make colleigate debut

Ball State Cross Country is set to take off in their fist competition of the season Saturday at 10 a.m. The team will be heading to Ohio to compete in the 5k Miami Invitational.

Leadership this year includes head captain Christine Talhelm and co-captain Emilee Zets. Zets is a redshirt sophomore after sitting out last fall.

"We have leaders all throughout our team," Coach Ali Bishel said. "All of them could very well become captains in the future."

Letter winners from last year's team include Talhelm, Madeline Goheen, Esther Tirado, Tiffany Cange, MaryKate Mellen and Allison Blanck.

Four freshmen join the line up including Samantha Sheldon, Madelyn Webster and twin sister, Caitlynn and Courtney Edon. Also joining the team is Thekla Lorenz who is a fifth-year senior but has concentrated more on track and field in the past years.

"We have a strong team dynamic," Bishel said. "They have many different personalities that work together."
