VOLLEYBALL: Ball State sweeps Loyola in season opener

A passionate crowd of 755 fans filled Worthen Arena on Friday night in anticipation for the Ball State women's volleyball team's season opener.

The Cardinals didn't disappoint in giving them a show.

Ball State swept Loyola 3-0 behind the play of its steady veterans in Kylee Baker and Kelsey Brandl.

Brandl finished the match with a team-high 12 kills and a .625 attack percentage. Baker followed her with nine kills and a .429 success rate.

Coach Steve Shondell praised the fan turnout on Ball State's successful night.

"Its great to get out and play in front of a wonderful crowd and the Ball State students," he said. "[We've] been in a gym for three weeks and playing hard, but there's nobody in here. Then you come out in front of a wonderful crowd and it really gets you pumped up."

Ball State faces IPFW at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Worthen Arena.
