SOFTBALL: Ball State recruit named best player in Michigan

Stuedemann named Miss Softball, best position player in state

Incoming Ball State softball recruit Hanne Stuedemann was named the 2011 Miss Softball Friday by the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association.

Stuedemann receives the award after her stellar senior season at Mattawan and Mattawan's state tournament run.

The MHSSCA gives the award to one position player and one pitcher each year. The pitcher award was given to sara Driesenga, who will play at Michigan next season.

In her most recent state tournament she hit five home runs in her team's final five games. In the regional semifinals, she had three-home runs and nine-RBI against St. John's.

During Mattawan's state tourney run this past season, Stuedemann blasted five home runs in the team's final five games, including a three-homer, nine RBI effort against St. Johns in the regional semifinals.

For the season, Stuedemann had a .492 batting average with 12 home runs, eight triples, 64 runs and 69 RBIs.

In addition to her Miss Softball accolade, Stuedemann earned first-team all-region, first-team all-district and all-conference honors in her final two seasons at Mattawan.
