FOOTBALL: Ball State adds two transfer athletes

Defensive players from St. Joseph's, ECU to join Ball State

Ball State football has added two student-athletes to play for the Cardinals.

Both student-athletes have signed grant-in-aid papers to complete their transfer.

Defensive back Kenneth Lee, who played high school football at Lawrence Central in Indianapolis, is transferring from St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Ind.

Linebacker Steve Spence is transferring from Conference USA school East Carolina. He graduated from East Carolina and will take graduate courses at Ball State, thus being eligible to play this fall.

"We are pleased to welcome these two fine young men to the Ball State football family," Lembo said in a press release. "Steve and Kenny are bright, articulate and thoughtful young men. Their maturity and leadership skills will help them with the transition to this new environment."

Lee led St. Joseph's in 2010 with 77 tackles, 47 of them solo. He recorded seven tackles for loss and one sack. He also had two interceptions and a fumble recovery.

He will redshirt for the Cardinals in 2011 and have two years of eligibility remaining.

Spence played only one game for the Pirates in 2010, but appeared in 13 of 14 games in 2009. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.

As a junior, he managed 15 tackles, two sacks and one fumble recovery.

"We are confident they will fit in well with the current student-athletes in our football program," Lembo said.
