SOFTBALL: Three BSU softball players earn academic honors

Barkley, Collins, Sanders all receive honors

Three Ball State softball players have earned the 2010-11 Capital One Academic First and Second Team All-District honors, according to the College Sports Information Directors of American Friday. 

Senior shortstop Alicia Barkley, senior right fielder Alyssa Collins and sophomore right-handed pitcher Audra Sanders join Northern Illinois junior designated hitter Carly Norton as the only players from the Mid-American Conference to earn the Capital One Academic District Five honors.

Academic All-District selections must have at least a 3.3 GPA and have played in a minimum of 50 percent or more of the team's contests as a starter or reserve.

Barkley made First Team All-District Five with a cumulative 3.61 GPA while Collins and Sanders made Second Team All-District Five with a 3.67 and 3.43 GPA, respectively.

Ball State travels to Akron, Ohio Wednesday to play Eastern Michigan in the MAC Tournament. First pitch is at 11 a.m.
