BASEBALL: Cardinals swept by Huskies

Ball State loses fourth straight conference series

Whatever hopes Ball State (13-34, 9-14) had of reaching the Mid-American Conference Tournament evaporated as it fell victim to an 18-8 blowout by Northern Illinois.

Ball State has now dropped four straight conference series and has not won one since the road Buffalo series.

Freshman Devin Wilburn got the start for the Cardinals, and the Huskies teed off on the freshman left-hander.

The Huskies tagged Wilburn for seven runs in his 4 1/3 innings of work. Wilburn surrendered three home runs in the eight hits he allowed.

Ball State trailed by three runs when the game entered the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Huskies put up an eight spot on the Cardinals thanks in large part to Jamison Wells's three-run double down the left field line.

The big inning for the Huskies was the third of the series, in which they scored five or more runs off the Cardinals' pitching staff.

Ball State has one MAC series remaining, a three-game set with Toledo, starting May 19 at Ball Diamond.
