WOMEN'S GOLF: Cardinals in second place after first round

Freshman Westaway shoots 78, tied for 10th place individually

Ball State women's golf team is in second place with a first round score of 312 at the Mid-American Conference Championships at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.

Kent State leads the tournament with a score of 305, while Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan are tied for third at 316.

Freshman Sarah Westaway, shot one of her lowest rounds of the season carding a 78. She is tied for 10th. Brittany Kelly, who finished second at last year's Mid-American Conference Championships, is tied for fourth after firing a 76.

Senior Rachael Pruett and junior Katie Windlan are tied for 15th after managing identical 79's. Autumn Duke is tied for 41st after a first round 88.

Akron, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Toledo and Western Michigan are also competing at the tournament.

The 54-hole tournament will continue with 18 holes Saturday. The final round will commence on Sunday.
