SOFTBALL: Cardinals outhit Zips en route to victory

Ball State collects 10 hits in 7-1 win over Akron

Ball State has had problems with team consistency all season long.

On Saturday, it was consistency that led the Ball State softball team to its 7-1 win over Akron.

Ball State scored seven runs on 10 hits and committed no errors for the game.

In addition, junior right-handed pitcher Audrey Workman gave up two hits and one run in her seven innings of work.

Freshman designated hitter Jennifer Gilbert led the way offensively for Ball State. Gilbert went 2-4 with a two-run home run in the top of the third and an RBI double in the top of the fifth, giving her a total of three RBIs for the game.

Freshman first baseman Taylor Rager continued her hot streak at the plate, going 3-4 with an RBI single in the top of the sixth.

Ball State continues its Ohio road trip Sunday, when they play in Akron, Ohio for the second consecutive day against the Zips. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
