MEN'S TENNIS: Ball State loses 4-3 to Buffalo

Cardinals drop final match before heading to MAC Tournament

Losing close matches is becoming a trend for Ball State.

Ball State lost its final regular season match at Buffalo 4-3 Friday.

It's the second loss to a Mid-American Conference team by the score of 4-3 as Toledo defeated Ball State April 10.

The loss drops Ball State to No. 4 seed in next week's Mid-American Conference tournament. Buffalo moves to the No. 3 seed and will clinch that spot with a win over Northern Illinois Sunday.

A Buffalo win would place Ball State at the No. 4 seed against No. 5 Northern Illinois in the first round.

Both teams split the six singles matches making Buffalo's win in the doubles point the deciding factor.

Sophomore Dalton Albertin and junior Cliff Morrison won No. 1 doubles 8-6 for the Cardinals. The Bulls took the point winning at No. 2 8-6 and No. 3 9-7.

Despite winning their doubles match, Albertin and Morrison lost their singles matches at No. 1 and No. 2 in straight sets.

Junior Zane Smith won his No. 3 singles match 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) after missing the last two matches with an ankle injury.

Sophomore Alexandre Brym and junior Andres Monroy won in straight sets at No. 4 and No. 5.

Sophomore Austin Sansone lost at No. 6 singles in straight sets.

Ball State finishes the regular season 12-14 (2-3 MAC). Buffalo is 10-7 (2-2 MAC).

Western Michigan won the MAC regular season title Friday beating Toledo 7-0 and will be the No. 1 seed in the MAC Tournament.
